Control. The Tower stands as the central authority of Central City, a unified structure of governance, technology, and control that oversees every system keeping the city operational. Formed during the Era of Integration, it brought order to a fractured landscape by linking infrastructure, data, and population into a single cohesive network. Through its divisions, including enforcement, media, security, and internal compliance, the Tower maintains stability with precision and intent. To its supporters, it is the force that saved the city from collapse and continues to ensure its survival. To its critics, it represents a system where control has quietly replaced freedom, its influence so deeply embedded that it is no longer questioned, only lived within. Sub-factions: The Hounds, Beacon, Firewall, Vault, and Branding & Compliance

"Unplug. Reclaim. Resist"

Resistance. The human resistance inside Central City. It started as a movement about unplugging from technology, thought to be mostly made up of crackpots wearing tin foil hats. As time has gone on, however, and the oppression of the Tower has become apparent to the populace, the group has grown beyond that into an actual resistance. Surge believes the city did not willingly choose its current path. In their eyes, Central City was slowly guided into dependence, until unplugging became unthinkable and dissent became invisible. They see the Tower’s promise of stability as a cage disguised as progress.

To Surge, the past is not perfect, but it represented something the present has lost: ownership. The right to choose your future, even if that choice leads to mistakes. They believe Central City once belonged to its people, and that it still can.

The Integration

The Era of Integration gave rise to the virtual reality system known as The Network. The Network is the invisible architecture that binds Central City together. Every streetlight, screen, transit line, and corporate system runs through its vast digital lattice. Citizens log into it daily for work, entertainment, and connection, slipping into a curated virtual layer that overlays reality. For many, life inside the Network has become more real than the streets outside it.

The Unraveling

The period known as The Unraveling marked the slow collapse of global stability as wars, corporate rivalries, and competing economic interests pulled nations and cities apart. Governments fractured under pressure they could no longer manage, and corporate entities expanded beyond regulation, prioritizing control over cooperation. Infrastructure failed in some regions and was hoarded in others, while supply lines, communication networks, and public trust deteriorated. Entire cities fell into disorder or were abandoned altogether. Through it all, Central City endured. Not untouched, but intact. Its survival was not the result of unity, but of tension held just tightly enough to prevent collapse, making it one of the last remaining bastions of functioning civilization in a world that was steadily coming undone.
